Inspired by the ancient Indian ethos of “Atithi Devo Bhava”—a revered Sanskrit verse from the Taittiriya Upanishad (Shikshavalli I.20) meaning “The guest is equivalent to God”—the Bread of Life (B.O.L.) Foundation upholds the dignity of every human being by clothing the naked and sheltering the homeless. In India, where millions still live in extreme poverty, lacking not only food but also basic clothing and shelter, this work is not just charity—it is a moral imperative. According to the Multidimensional Poverty Index, over 16% of India’s population lives without access to essentials like adequate clothing and housing.
In line with its mission, B.O.L. actively collaborates with other NGOs to extend its outreach and ensure more lives are touched. As part of its long-term vision, B.O.L. plans to accommodate the homeless at its “Samaritan House”, a compassionate refuge within its premises, offering not just clothing but also shelter, warmth, and dignity. Through these initiatives, the foundation brings to life the Indian cultural value of treating every needy person as an embodiment of the divine, while addressing deep-rooted socioeconomic inequalities.
