Ignorance is defined as a state of being uninformed or having lack of knowledge or education. It is not a revelation that literacy in India is a key for its socio-economic progress. Yet, ignorance stands at the root of illiteracy and often gives birth to its extreme form, which is apathy.
Not knowing the truth and wiliness to know it, gives an opportunity for catechesis and sound teaching. But, not feeling any inclination or interest to know the truth is apathy, and presents the occasion for evangelization.
The B.O.L foundation will act closely to address both these forms of ignorance by taking following initiatives:
It is a well-known fact that the Indian Syro-Malabar Catholic social reformer St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, cemented the way for an educational revolution in Kerala, India’s first and most literate state, by making education accessible to all, irrespective of caste or religion. He was responsible for introducing noon day meals in schools, a practice later adopted by the Indian government itself[1].
The B.O.L foundation will embrace the model of St. Kuriakose by providing education to the indigents, irrespective of caste or religion. Because, “Before all else, the Gospel invites us to respond to the God of love who saves us, to see God in others and to go forth from ourselves to seek the good of others. Under no circumstance can this invitation be obscured!” [2]
